Service · Tracking check

Check your conversion tracking
before you optimise anything

Helferlain first checks whether your account measures what it should: primary conversion actions, attribution, values and lookback windows. With zero conversions, the tracking finding comes first and there is no euro estimate.

  • Tracking finding comes first
  • No euro estimate based on zero
  • Cross-check with GA4

0 conversions in the period: check conversion tracking first

Dependent findings are downgraded. A euro estimate is not reliable with zero conversions.

Gate ActiveFix tracking issues first

NOT APPLIED

Tracking looks broken, so the 0-conversion signal is not trustworthy yet.

Illustration: when tracking looks suspicious, Helferlain blocks proposals based on zero conversions. Gate Active, Fix tracking issues first and the Not applied note are the labels used in the app.

Tracking first

Why zero conversions prove nothing

If no active conversion action counts in your account, Google Ads measures no conversions. Then “0 conversions” says nothing about whether a campaign or a search term works.

That is why the tracking finding comes first, dependent findings are downgraded and there is no euro estimate. Helferlain does not apply proposals based on zero conversions while tracking looks suspicious.

If you exclude search terms because they “bring nothing” while tracking is not measuring, you may cut off exactly the demand that is actually working.

Scope

What the tracking audit checks

If something could not be checked, it appears as a separate note.

In your assistant, measurement readiness and the status of offline conversions are available as separate analyses.

  • Primary conversion actions, attribution models, value settings and lookback windows.
  • Enhanced conversions for leads and the customer data terms.
  • Primary conversion actions with no conversions in the last 90 days.
  • A lead form action although there is no lead form.
  • Contact routes that only count as secondary actions.
  • Conversions dropping while clicks stay normal in the daily trend, as a sign of broken tracking.

Second source

GA4 against Google Ads

You connect GA4 and Search Console under Connectors with Google sign-in. The audit still runs without additional sources, but cross-source findings are thinner or missing.

GA4 as a second view

GA4 shows whether visitors from ads do something on the website. If GA4 differs sharply from the conversions in Google Ads, that points to a tracking issue.

Cross-source audit

If GA4 or Search Console is connected, the cross-source audit checks conversion discrepancies, cannibalisation and coverage gaps. In the app you find it under Cross-Source.

Data protection

What Helferlain does not read

Helferlain reads data from Google Ads and the connected sources. Secret keys and credentials are not part of that.

Security and data protection
  • No GA4 secrets

Helferlain does not read secret keys such as Measurement Protocol secrets in GA4, only how many there are and their names.
  • No Google passwords

Your Google credentials never appear in Helferlain, and we do not store them. The access token is stored encrypted.

Process

Three steps to reliable numbers

  1. Connect

Connect Google Ads with Google sign-in and check it with Test connection. Optionally add GA4 and Search Console.

Until Google verification is complete, Google shows a warning screen for beta apps.

  2. Start the audit

You start the audit on the overview. If there is a tracking finding, it is at the very top.

  3. Fix and check again

Check in Google Ads that at least one conversion action is active and counts towards conversions. Then start a new audit.

To be clear

What the tracking check does not do

  • Helferlain does not currently propose changes to tracking. You do the fix in Google Ads; proposals are mainly created for wasted spend.
  • Bigin (CRM) and WordPress as a return channel for form enquiries are not available yet.
  • You still set target CPA and target ROAS directly in Google Ads.
  • Google Ads only. No Meta, LinkedIn or TikTok ads.
  • Until Google verification is complete, Google shows a warning when you connect, and access runs as a closed beta on request.

Questions

Common questions about the tracking check

Why does Helferlain show no euro figure with zero conversions?
Because with zero conversions, any calculation like “You are wasting X euros” would just be a result based on zero. Helferlain leaves such estimates out, does not include them in any total and states instead that the estimate is not reliable. A missing figure does not mean everything is fine; it means the data is missing.
Do I need GA4 for the tracking check?
No, the tracking check works with Google Ads alone. With GA4 connected, you also get the cross-check: if GA4 differs sharply from the conversions in Google Ads, that points to a tracking issue. You connect GA4 under Connectors with Google sign-in and need access to the GA4 property with the same Google account.
Does Helferlain change my conversion actions?
No. The tracking check only reads and shows what stands out, such as a primary action with no conversions in the last 90 days. Today, change proposals are mainly created for wasted spend. You do the fix in Google Ads and then start a new audit. Until then, Helferlain does not apply findings based on zero conversions.
What if something could not be checked?
Then it appears as a separate note instead of silently missing. The same applies to anomalies: if there is not enough data, Helferlain says so instead of judging. You check such points yourself in Google Ads. After a fix, start a new audit so the check runs with the current settings.

Measure first, then optimise

Connect with Google sign-in, and the audit usually takes under a minute. If tracking is off, you see it as the first finding.
